I have been a professional full-time licensed captain and fishing guide for the past 34 years. Taking people fishing IS my full-time job! You can see me regularly on John Gillespie's Woods and Waters television show.
Fishing has always been a huge part of my life. For me, there is nothing more enjoyable than giving my customers the greatest fishing experience of their lives.
On Erie Hopper Charters, fishing is only part of the charter experience. I will not only teach you how to catch fish, but will also explain the diverse ecosystem that makes Lake Erie such a fantastic fishery. My goal of any charter is to make sure that everyone on board catches fish and has FUN!
I'm licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as a Charterboat Operator and by the State of Ohio as a Lake Erie Fishing Guide since 1984.
I was named 2010 Lake Erie Charter Captain of the Year, by the Lake Erie Charter Boat Assocation in conjunction with the Ohio DNR and Ohio SeaGrant.
I'm featured regularly on John Gillespie's Woods & Water's television program.
I'm President of the Lake Erie Charter Boat Association.
I'm a member of the West Sister Charter Boat Association.
5 time winner of the West Sister Charter Boat Association walleye tournament.
I'm a Pro-Staff member of the Pure Fishing and Frabill Teams.
I've been featured in past articles concerning fishing in The Toledo Blade, the Columbus Dispatch, the Cincinnati Post and the Bryan Times.
Ariel view of Erie Hopper
My boat, the Erie Hopper, is not the standard fishing boat seen on Lake Erie. It is a 2004 custom-built, 30' Island Hopper with a roomy 12' beam. With over twice the back deck space of most charter boats, this boat was built for fishing. John Gillespie, Woods & Water's host has stated that, "It is probably the finest boat that I've ever fished out of." I use state-of-the-art electronics including the latest fishing-finding, communication and Global Positioning satellite navigation equipment.
